Vietnam Action Claims Life of Monroe Soldier

Army Spec. 4 Clifton A. Davis, 20, son of Mrs. Nola F. Green, 612 S. 16th, Monroe, has been listed by the Defense Department as one of 44 American servicemen killed in action in the Vietnam fighting.

Spec. Davis was killed Sept. 21, when his base camp came under enemy mortar fire. He had been in Vietnam since the first week in February and had hoped to be home for Christmas, his step-father, Floyd Green said.

His family here had received a letter from him about two weeks ago in which he said the war was “pretty rough,” but he indicated he planned to re-enlist, return to Vietnam, and make a career of the Army.

Davis enlisted in the Army in June, 1966, and was an engineering specialist. He had been graduated from Eastside High School in Farmerville in 1966.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and step-father, include his father, Amos Davis, Farmerville; four sisters, Nola Mae Green, Martha Jane Green, Jacqueline Green and Elizabeth Ann Green, all of Monroe; four brothers, Hubert Reeves, Robert Earl Green, Floyd Green Jr. and Lloyd Green, all of Monroe.
